Once You Start You Can't Stop

Brooklyn Rescue Umbrella left Petco in the summer of 2012 and returned to Pet Delight to do light rescue while waiting for our 501c3 to be processed.  We are still waiting for our Determination Letter that says BRU is a non profit but waiting would not mean standing still.  There were too many urgent needs to respond to in a short, hot, humid summer and so, we worked using Mass Transit and 3 traps.

TNR continued; Adoption Assistance continued; Rescue continued and so did Community Outreach.  See our facebook page for our past accomplishments; current situations and future goals.

We have made a connection with Boggie Doggie 2 in BayRidge at 7616 Fifth Avenue, and are there every first and third weekend of each month from Noon to 6 pm.  We are at Pet Delight at 300 Kings Highway every wednesday from noon - 6pm.

We anticipate a third site in Park Slope in the next few weeks.

Petco on Stillwell has Brooklyn Rescue Umbrella (and we have cats!)

We're down to the last 5 cats from the Brighton Beach Hoarder and have gotten and adopted out many others!

Come and meet Greta: she has put on weight since leaving her overcrowded situation and is so loving. She wants a home of her own and she deserves it!

Why are we still HERE? I think the other cats can't believe they're still not adopted.

Stanley has the sexiest looking eyes and will be a great companion.

Pebbles has smoothly walked out of his cage and calmly allowed me to put him back in without a fuss
Red is such a Baby Love even though he looks like a Marine!
Valla is in heat - shhe will be spayed and then returned for adoption. she is one slinky cat!
Barton is going back to the vet and then will be available for adoption.  This is his After picture

Brighton Beach Hoarder Collection of Cats

After signing a stipulation to keep only 2 cats Barbara now has until April 15 to find homes for the remaining 23 of 45 cats, Some of these are scared and need re-socializing; some are feral and need to go to a sanctuary; and a few more are friendly and just need vet care before going up for adoption. We need to raise funds; get foster homes; get socializing done and get these cats adopted. Please join us in this Rescue!

We hope to "pull" 2 more cats from the Barbara Berger Cat Collection in Brighton Beach this coming week. One is a gray 5 month old kitten with really bad eye infections and the other a possible senior cat named Franchesca. Franchesca never moves from the same spot and I've already visited 5-6 times: She reminds me of Blackie, the 13 year old who had anemia from a chronic infection and is now thriving.

We are not funded and this rescue is putting us in deep debt!

I have updates on a few cats being fostered!

Alexander, the cat who's photo is in the "Donate Now" box for the "gofundme.com" site is scheduled for surgery. Everyone who meets him falls in love with him. He's adopted, but his foster mom has confided in me that if he wasn't, she'd take him in a heart beat. That she doesn't want his new home to fall through, but she'll be sad when he's gone- and I'...
ll miss him too! He's like having a mix of a dog and a person in your home. Laid back, he comes when you call him, and he looks and behaves like he completely understands English-
Blacky has been renamed "Lord Byron"- because the old guy needed a strong and noble name. He's being "permanently fostered" because there was no way his foster mom could possibly part with him even though it seemed like he had very extreme health problems... which he still may, but for now- he tested negative for the main baddies. He's OLLLLLLD so he's fairly skinny, but now he's very active, and engaging. He started responding to "Byron" immediately. What was feared to be organs shutting down from age, is a bit of anemia, raised white blood cells, which hopefully is just from a small infection that went unnoticed at his previous home, and a REALLY stinky case of the runs that we're hoping is just IBS. Non-fatal, there's medications for that, and right now, it's just a little stinky at times.

Valla is being fostered with Alexander. She will be at the next adoption event at the petco that runs from Friday evening to Sunday evening... She's a little shy about her fosters dogs- one of which is the energizer bunny, and can be even overwhelming to people in a very friendly way! But it's set up so Valla can go relax in a room, though she's fallen in love with being HIGH up on top of cabinets near the ceiling when she needs to get away...

Bushy is back at Petco (on Stillwell Avenue and 86th street). His personality is much like Alexanders, but he's a big black cat with 1 slightly crumpled ear... He and Lord Byron both are complete angels in a house with 2 dogs, 4 other cats, 2 rats, 2 finches and 2 mice in a very tempting tube and modular set up. Even her own cats are tempted to grab their wheel as they run on it 'cause it's on the outside of their enclosure... but both Bushy and Lord Byron don't pay them the slightest attention- however, they love to sit and watch the finches!

Bushy is also like having a little person in the house, and if you look at him and say "Where is my little man?" he perks up and trots over to you. If he's bored, he'll walk into your room, and let out a little "mrow" here and there, but it's SO LOW you barely hear it. He likes curling up in darker areas, but again, if you walk in and say "Where's the Bushy???" or something like that, he comes right to you! (And I'm sure he'll learn another name quickly just like Lord Byron did!) He's an older cat, 8 years old, but has a ton of personality, and you fall in love quickly. His foster has said that if she wasn't at her personal cat limit of now, 5 cats- she would adopt him in a heartbeat as well! But her loss will definitely be someone else's gain because my GOODNESS, you look into those eyes once, and he starts rolling around to entertain you- and you'll see that personality that wins over all who see him!

Don't Forsake These Cats!

We really need your help with these cats.  We have no funding and my personal funds are all gone.
13 year old Lord Byron (once Blackie) is doing very well.  blood tests show anemia and possible irritable bowel syndrome.  He is in a very good place and appreciating it very much.

Alexander is  having ear surgery on March 29th,  Both ears are full of hematomas and need to be re opened.

Barton has a heart murmur; giardia; an eye so infected it must be removed and FIV.

Donations are really needed for these two - their vet is  Dr. Giangola
Narrows Veterinary Hospital
718 238 5055
they are at 91 street and 4th avenue in Bayridge, brooklyn

The removal of these cats is over.  The veterinary care is just beginning
